Denise Bertin-Epp, President and Chief Nursing Officer

Bertin-Epp has more than 20 years nursing and medical consulting experience and readily acknowledges that her passion is addiction medicine. Under her leadership, Brighton Hospital has experienced significant financial turnaround and entered into an era of growth with the opening of its daily medical clinic and men’s halfway house. Bertin-Epp was also instrumental in implementing electronic medical records and utilizing holistic treatment approaches, such as acupuncture. During her tenure, Brighton Hospital became the first behavioral health care facility in the state of Michigan to participate in an unannounced survey for the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations. Bertin-Epp earned her R.N. degree at the Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology (Ontario) and her B.Sc. in Nursing at the McMaster University School of Nursing (Ontario). She also earned a M.S. in Health Care Administration at Central Michigan University. Bertin-Epp joined Brighton Hospital as its director of nursing in 1999 after holding various progressive health care leadership positions in Canada and the U.S. The hospital’s board of directors promoted her to president in 2005. Bertin-Epp is a member of the American Society for Quality – Healthcare Division and has delivered numerous national presentations related to process improvement and regulatory standards.
